I had to kill it because I love comments
I had to do it. Really, I did. I had no choice.
I had to kill Disqus because I’ve been getting so many messages from lovely readers who’ve just found it too difficult to comment. And I LOVE comments. I love getting your feedback, seeing what you think, what you like, what you don’t. It gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling.
So what did I go with? After lots of research I decided on the basic WordPress comment system with the free CommentLuv plug in. Why? Because if you’re going to go to the trouble of commenting here then the least I can do is let you add a link to your latest post. I’m all about sharing the love (except for you *pokes spammers in the eye*).
If you’re a WordPress blogger thinking about making the jump from Disqus to CommentLuv it’s actually pretty easy…
#1 Do a backup: Disqus backs up all your comments to the default WordPress comment system so I could easily check that my latest comments were there.
#2 Kill Disqus: Next I deactivated Disqus and installed the free version of CommentLuv. You could go for the pro paid-for version but most of the extras can be found in other free plug ins – like G.A.S.P for moderating spam for example (you just need to check the box when you leave a comment to confirm you’re not a spammer).
#3 Configure: CommentLuv worked here straight out of the box and I’ve configured it to let anyone choose from their last ten posts to add as a URL after their comment. The jury’s still out on whether this will increase my spam comments, so I haven’t deleted Disqus just yet, it’s just sitting there looking sad and a bit unloved. Sorry Disqus but you just don’t do it for me.
I’m not completely happy with the design yet, it’s a bit clunky and needs some finessing but I’ve already had 100% better customer service from Comment Luv than I ever had from Disqus so it’s all smiles here for now.
So now it’s over to you – is it easier to comment now? Do you prefer Disqus or CommentLuv? Let me know in my *new* shiny comment section below!

I love CommentLuv! I like that it lets me see other people’s blog posts and it just seems so easy to use. I like the concept of Disqus but I don’t personally get on with it. A lot of people can’t praise it enough though!

Yay! Thanks for linking with Tuesday but mainly thank you for getting rid of Disquis, it’s awful 😉

I’ve always been a Disqus fan but ditched it for the same reasons as you a while back, other people don’t seem to like it.

I quite liked it too from an ‘editor’ point of view but really there’s no point in having a comment system that people can’t use is there… it’s a wonder they don’t do something about it!
