Meet my Britmums Live Sponsor: NOOM

Meet my Britmums Live Sponsor: NOOM

BritMums Live is the UK’s biggest, two-day social media conference and blogger event. It’s where lifestyle bloggers and social influencers meet… and it’s just days away! I’m so excited to be going again and this year I’m delighted to be representing NOOM the healthy habits mobile app that I’m already so proud to be an ambassador for.

I’ve written before about how sick I am of the commercials, advertorials and emails promising that this or that potion, pill or seaweed slime will drop the pounds. They won’t. What they do is make people very rich. I’m going to tell you the real secret to weight loss:

The only way to lose weight healthily is to use more calories than you eat. It’s as simple as that.

But of course it’s NOT that simple, is it? And that’s why the authors of diet books and sellers of diet products are millionaires.

We all want a quick fix. But a quick fix won’t keep the weight off. A quick fix might change our body chemistry in the short term but it won’t stay that way. As soon as we go back to our ‘normal lives’ the pounds creep back on.

What we need to do is create a new normal, with new HABITS. And that’s why I think Noom works so well for me. It’s a coaching app that you download onto your phone and combines food tracking, exercise coaching, healthy recipes and group support (if you want it) to help you set new healthier habits to reach your weight-loss goal. And the basic version is free. Yep, free.

Noom

Importantly Noom is not just a weight-loss app but a healthy lifestyle tool that I use every single day. Want to read more? Here’s 6 things I love about Noom.

Healthy living is at the heart of the Noom Coach ethos and this week, in support of National Diabetes Week, Noom has teamed up with Dr Rob Hicks to offer a free Diabetes kit with advice on being able to spot the warning signs that indicate you could be at risk from the disease. With 3.2 million people suffering from Diabetes and a further 630,000 estimated to have the condition Noom conducted a study that shows that despite a stream of advice to eat healthily and stay active, there is still around a third of the nation that doesn’t exercise at all.

If you’re a regular reader here then you’ll already know that my husband and I lost 60lb using the Noom app and adopting healthy habits like regular exercise. And Noom coached us through it.  We’re both still using it over a year later. In fact it was after a chance meeting with their lovely team at Britmums Live last year I became the UK ambassador, featuring in the press, on their website and even in the app itself.

The lovely team at Noom have printed me this fab t-shirt which I’ll be wearing both mornings – so if you’re going to Britmums Live and you see this t-shirt, grab me and say hi!

Also, don’t forget to ask me for one of my lovely double sided business cards which features one of the Noom recipes on the back – the delicious and totally morish Double Dark Chocolate Biscotti.

I just had to try out the recipe myself… all in the interests of research of course! And I can tell you it is absolutely yummy! It’s a traditional biscotti, crunchy, decadent and perfect for dunking in tea or coffee. And what’s even better, they’re only 163 calories per serving. But don’t just take my word for it… try it yourself!

Double Dark Chocolate Biscottii

Double dark chocolate biscotti

Ingredients:

180g plain flour
90g soft brown sugar
35g cocoa
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
1 large egg
2 large egg whites
60g butter melted
2 tsp vanilla extract
40g dark chocolate chips

Glaze:
50g icing sugar
2 tsp skimmed milk
2 drops almond extract

1. Preheat oven to 180 c. Line baking sheet or use non stick spray.

2. In mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Stir to combine.

3. In another bowl combine egg, egg whites, melted butter and vanilla extract. Beat with a fork until well blended. Ady to dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips.

4. Shape the resulting sticky dough into a log shape and place onto baking tray flattening slightly. Bake for 25 mins.

5. Remove from oven and let stand for 15 mins or until cool enough to move. Cut into 1/2 inch thick slices with a serrated knife. Place slices cut side down on baking sheet again and bake for 10-15 more mins until crisp. Remove and cool completely.

6. Mix icing sugar, almond extract and milk until smooth and drizzle over biscuits.

  2. I agree with you, eating healthily whilst trying to keep calories down can be a struggle and the last thing you want is to eat something that tastes’ awful! So Noom is a great app and I love how you have all your media and esp your T-shirt looks – it looks great!
